Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing - being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with a spirit of openness and curiosity.

Self-compassion involves responding to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness, sympathy and understanding so that we soothe and comfort ourselves when we're hurting. Research has shown that self-compassion greatly enhances emotional well-being. It boosts happiness, reduces anxiety and depression, and can even help maintain healthy lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise. Being both mindful and compassionate leads to greater ease and well-being in our daily lives.

Workshop details:

This Live Online Workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn and experience the key practices and exercises of MSC in a weekend setting from the comfort of your own home. It is a condensed version of the eight-session, empirically-supported Mindful Self-Compassion training developed by Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff.

Workshop 
activities include short meditations, reflective writing, experiential exercises, group discussion, and inquiry into our emotional and cognitive patterns around self-care, self-esteem, and self-criticism. The result? More self-compassion.

In this course, you will:

  • Practice mindfulness and self-compassion in daily life
  • Learn how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • Learn how to motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
  • Take a fresh look at challenging relationships, old and new
  • Learn tools to manage caregiver fatigue
  • Practice the art of savoring and self-appreciation
  • Be able to teach simple self-compassion practices to others

Schedule:

  • Friday: 7 - 9 PM.
  • Saturday/Sunday: 
    • Morning Session: 9 AM - 12 Noon. 
    • Lunch 12 - 1:30 PM. 
    • Afternoon Session: 1:30 - 4:30 PM.

Getting ready for a multi-day online Workshop:

You will need a quiet room or corner (headphones can help) for our periods of formal practice. You can do our integrated online Workshop at home or you could consider booking yourself a stay somewhere for personal time away. Both work well.

Prerequisites:

No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend this Workshop. As this is a resource-building Workshop, we will be learning and practicing skills to help us offer ourselves the kindness that we need. At times, difficult emotions may emerge and participants are asked to attend to their own safety and wellbeing as best they can. The Workshop Instructors will also be available to support participants as we proceed through the weekend together; we are committed to making the journey safe, interesting, and enjoyable for everyone.

Catherine Duffy, Certified Mindfulness Northwest Instructor and MSC Trained Teacher with the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion at the University of California at San Diego.  


Location: Live Online using Zoom (contact info is emailed upon registration).     

Cost: $475 - $250   Sliding Scale Tuition.

We also have special Scholarship Tuition options available for those unable to pay at the low end of the sliding scale. We can only offer limited quantities of scholarship tuition so please register early.

Note that there will also be an opportunity during registration to practice generosity by making a contribution to our Accessibility Fund so that others without means can attend.

Payment plans are also available during registration (four equal monthly payments; no financing fee).
