    Apply for the 2022-24 cohort of the Mindfulness Northwest Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher Training (MBSR-TT). For program details and prerequisites please see our MBSR Teacher Training page. Look for fundamental training in teaching mindfulness? You may want to look at the Mindfulness Teacher Training (MTTP) program.

    Please note that this is an application, not a registration form. We will be selecting a maximum of 10 participants for this cohort.

    Key selection criteria:

    * Significant training in leading mindfulness or similar contemplative practices

    * Ongoing personal mindfulness meditation practice

    * Applicable situation / plan for teaching mindfulness

    * Cohort diversity of backgrounds

    * Flexible, independent, learner

    * Team-oriented, "we first," orientation

    The MBSR-TT is a significant commitment of time, energy, and funds. We are excited to be offering this intensive training and encourage you to review all materials before applying.

    You are also invited to write to Senior instructor, and Mindfulness Northwest MBSR-TT Program Director, Karen Schwisow (karen@mindfulnessnorthwest.com), if you have any questions about the program.

    The application process includes a brief interview. After receiving your application we will contact you about an in-person or video interview using the Zoom platform.

    Application Process:

    1) Fill out the application (click Register to begin).

    2) Ask a mentor, teacher, or colleague to send a letter of recommendation to office@mindfulnessnorthwest.com - please ask your reference to help us understand why this teacher training program is a good fit for you at this time. [This step can be waived if you completed our Mindfulness Teacher Training Program (MTTP).]

    3) Upon receipt of application and letter of recommendation we will contact you to schedule an applicant interview.

    4) If you are selected for this year's cohort we will let you know and request that you finalize your enrollment by making a $500 tuition deposit.

    Note that we recommend writing your statements in a Word document and copy-pasting them into the application to ensure you don't lose your work as this is a web form and there is no Save feature until you complete the entire application.

    The Roots of Mindfulness & Compassion:
    A week of extended Practice 90-minutes north of Seattle

    Live, in-person event

    Sunday evening October 10th, through Sunday mid-day October 17th

    As we start to emerge from the pandemic, this year's retreat will emphasize both mindfulness and compassion. These two areas of practice deeply support each other. Mindfulness is knowing more fully and clearly what is happening moment after moment, and compassion training supports our natural ability to respond to the ups and downs of life with more kindness and understanding.

    Roots of Mindfulness & Compassion Theme: Practicing Together. The practices led, and the talks by Tim and Robin, will focus on the ways mindfulness and compassion support each other as we grow, learn, and transform through practicing together once again at retreat.

    Course Details:
    This residential retreat will be held mostly in silence and will include a series of gently guided mindfulness and self-compassion practices including sitting meditation, walking meditation, gentle yoga, the body scan, loving-kindness, and other compassion practices.

    Simple accommodations (single occupancy in most cases) and all meals will be included.

    Details on what to bring will be sent upon registration.

    For more information about our Residential Silent Retreats, click here.

    Who this event is for:
    This retreat will be highly relevant both to mindfulness and self-compassion students interested in deepening their practice.

    Prerequisites:
    Before practicing for a full week we recommend that you have experience with mindfulness or related contemplative practices. The retreat is designed first for graduates of the intensive 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction class and should also be fine for those who have tasted mindfulness or meditation in teacher-led classes, retreats, or meditation centers. Contact us if you have questions about whether this retreat will be appropriate for you.

    Teacher Training and Development:
    This retreat meets prerequisite requirements of a 5-day silent, guided retreat for the following teacher training programs:

    Location and Directions:

    Samish Island Campground

    Accommodations:

    There are two types of cabins: rustic cabins, which are simple plywood cabins built in the 1950's with heat, beds, and shared campground bathroom buildings; and e-cabins, which are modern motel-level buildings where two units share a bathroom.

    The 40 rustic cabins are quieter and simpler but one must walk across the lawn to the bathrooms. Single occupancy is available in rustic cabins for all participants. Or, same-household participants can share a rustic cabin.

    The 16 e-cabins are lighter, more modern, and may share a bathroom if both participants are from the same household. There can be more noise in e-cabins due to the sharing of the bathroom and we ask e-cabin residents to be very careful of the noise from doors and bathroom fixtures so as not to disturb their neighbors.

    A surcharge is required for lodging in the more modern e-cabins.

    During the registration process, you may request one of these options: rustic, e-cabin with double occupancy, e-cabin with single occupancy, or RV or camping.

    Meals:

    The hearty meals served at Samish Island Campground get rave reviews. All meals are included in the registration price. We can accommodate nearly any dietary request - just let us know in the Comments field during registration.

    Expectations of Participants:
    By signing up for this retreat you are agreeing to:

    1) Follow the Schedule - participate in the practice schedule as fully as possible. We allow alternate schedules and variations in the schedule due to health needs. This is a structured week of practice with a schedule of practices we will do together starting first thing in the morning. That structure is a powerful support for deepening our mindfulness practice.

    2) Do jobs and chores - do some chores around the camp. You will have the option of choosing an ongoing job or helping with cleaning and organizing at the end of the week. The Samish Island Campground is staffed by a small volunteer staff and costs are held low by asking the visiting group to leave the camp as clean as they found it.
